Ex-NJ cop allegedly handcuffed, groped firefighters during fake trainings

A former New Jersey police officer who also served as a volunteer fire chief was arrested Thursday after multiple firefighters accused him of handcuffing, groping, and engaging in other acts of sexual contact during what investigators say were fake training sessions.
Robert Sinnott Jr., 52, an ex-cop and former chief of the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company in Toms River, New Jersey, was taken into custody at his home in Cape Coral, Florida, according to a statement released by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Officials say Sinnott used his authority within the fire company to stage unauthorized or fabricated “training exercises,” during which he allegedly restrained and touched firefighters without consent. Several members of the department came forward, triggering an investigation that ultimately led to Thursday’s arrest.
The Attorney General’s Office has not yet disclosed how many victims are involved, but sources indicate the misconduct may have spanned multiple incidents.
Sinnott is expected to be extradited to New Jersey, where he will face formal charges.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging any additional victims or witnesses to contact the Attorney General’s Office.
