Somerset County Sheriff Dustin Weir charged with corruption of minor after ‘Shop with a Cop’ event

SOMERSET COUNTY, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday has filed corruption of minors charges against Somerset County Sheriff Dustin Weir, following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a 15-year-old girl during a community “Shop with a Cop” event held last year.
According to a press release from Sunday’s office, Weir faces a misdemeanor charge after allegedly asking the teenage girl inappropriate questions and attempting to take disturbing photos with her inside a local Walmart.
Investigators say that during the event, Sheriff Weir pressured the minor to accompany him to the aisle where condoms were displayed, and then tried to photograph her next to the products. The report further details that Weir made explicit remarks and questions directed toward the girl.
The victim was volunteering at the event’s photo booth when Weir approached her and asked her to join him. Feeling pressured by the sheriff’s position, the girl followed him to the aisle where the inappropriate incident occurred.
Attorney General Sunday condemned the behavior, emphasizing the betrayal of public trust.
“The facts in this case outline lewd acts committed by a law enforcement leader who swore an oath to protect his community and set an example for fellow officers,” said Sunday.
“This type of conduct harms the image and reputation of law enforcement officers who spend their days making sacrifices to keep communities safe. Criminal behavior will not be tolerated, regardless of occupation, title, or rank.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not released further details on Weir’s employment status with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
