BCFP Reality News Demands Resignation of “Crooked” Bedford Police Chief Troy Nelson Amid Allegations of Bias and Neglect

BEDFORD — BCFP Reality News has publicly called for the resignation of Bedford Borough Police Chief Troy Nelson, accusing him of failing to protect citizens and showing bias in his duties. The demand comes amid allegations that Nelson has neglected to address attacks on a local resident due to the victim’s association with BCFP, a media outlet critical of local authorities.
According to BCFP Reality News, Nelson has repeatedly refused to file charges against a known individual in Bedford accused of attacking Nick Tirpack, a victim associated with the outlet. Sources claim that Nelson has dismissed Tirpack’s complaints by referencing his own past grievances, allegedly telling Tirpack, “Both Deloziers harassed me, what makes you so special?” This statement, BCFP argues, highlights Nelson’s unwillingness to act impartially and uphold the law.
BCFP Reality News has accused Nelson of allowing personal biases to influence his decisions, particularly against individuals linked to their organization. “The Chief of Police in Bedford has failed to do his job due to his bias against anyone who associates with BCFP,” the outlet stated in a recent release. They further questioned Nelson’s appointment as police chief, pointing to his controversial tenure as warden of the Bedford County Correctional Facility. In 2020, Nelson was suspended as warden following “operational concerns,” with the state Department of Corrections stepping in to oversee the jail’s operations, as reported by TribDem at the time. “How he ever got the job as Chief of Police after messing up the jail as a warden is still in question,” BCFP added.
Despite his troubled history, Nelson was appointed Bedford Borough’s Police Chief in September 2024, as reported by the Bedford Gazette. His prior experience with the borough’s police force and other local law enforcement entities was cited as a reason for his hiring. However, BCFP Reality News argues that Nelson’s track record demonstrates a pattern of failure that disqualifies him from serving in such a critical role.
The outlet is now urging the mayor of Bedford to intervene and replace Nelson with a leader who will “uphold the law for all, not just his hand-picked cases based on whether he likes them or not.” They have labeled Nelson “a disgrace to the badge,” insisting that his resignation—or removal—is long overdue.
The allegations against Nelson raise broader questions about accountability in local law enforcement, especially in light of recent national scrutiny on police conduct. For instance, the 2023 killing of Tyre Nichols by five Memphis police officers, as documented by Wikipedia, underscored systemic issues in policing that continue to fuel public distrust. While Nelson’s case differs in nature, BCFP’s accusations of bias and inaction echo similar concerns about the integrity of those entrusted to protect communities.
As of this publication, neither Chief Nelson nor the Bedford Borough mayor’s office has responded to BCFP Reality News’ demands. XMN News reached out to Nelson for comment but has not received a reply. The mayor’s office also declined to comment on the matter, stating that it is under review.
BCFP Reality News has vowed to continue pressing for justice, both for Nick Tirpack and for the broader Bedford community. “It’s time for Troy Nelson to go,” the outlet concluded in its statement, signaling that this story is far from over.
