In a stunning twist, claims made by Jonathan Oddi in 2018—once dismissed as the ravings of a disturbed man—are being reevaluated after a new report. Oddi, who opened fire at Trump National Doral Miami resort in May 2018, told Florida police during his interrogation that he was a “sex slave” for music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. At the time, his allegations were ignored, but new evidence suggests there may be truth to his story.
A non-disclosure agreement signed by Oddi and Combs in July 2014—four years before the Doral incident—has surfaced, reportedly tied to a $5 million settlement. Oddi’s estranged ex-wife, Tonia Troutwine, said the agreement marked the beginning of Oddi’s mental unraveling, which culminated in the 2018 shooting. “He’s getting his vindication,” Troutwine said, pointing to the timing of their divorce and Oddi’s spiraling behavior after the NDA was signed.
Oddi is no hero in this saga. On May 18, 2018, the 42-year-old South African native stormed the Trump Doral resort, draped an American flag over the lobby counter, and fired shots into the ceiling while ranting about Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and Combs. Police engaged in a firefight, wounding Oddi in the legs before arresting him. He faces charges of attempted murder of law enforcement officers, armed burglary, and armed grand theft, and remains in custody in Miami-Dade County awaiting trial.
During his interrogation, Oddi made explosive claims about Combs, alleging he was forced into sexual acts with Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, while Combs watched and directed. “I was like a sex slave, OK? For them, that’s what I was,” Oddi told investigators, also claiming he contracted herpes from the encounters and used “liquid cocaine” with the couple. These allegations were initially dismissed as delusions—“the ramblings of a lunatic,” as one source put it—but recent developments in Combs’ legal troubles have cast them in a new light.
Combs, now facing a federal indictment for sex trafficking, racketeering, and other charges, has been accused of similar coercive behavior in a lawsuit filed by Ventura in November 2023. Ventura alleged years of abuse and being forced into “freak offs”—drug-fueled sex parties—claims that echo Oddi’s 2018 statements. The resurfaced NDA, combined with Oddi’s sudden wealth post-divorce (he purchased $765,000 in properties with cash shortly after claiming a negative net worth), raises questions about whether Combs paid to silence him.
Troutwine believes Oddi’s relationship with Combs triggered his mental breakdown. “Diddy has those radiating personalities… Johnny would’ve played perfectly into that,” she said, suggesting Oddi was drawn into Combs’ orbit before their marriage collapsed. Oddi’s erratic behavior, including rants about the Illuminati, Obama, and other celebrities, muddied his credibility at the time, but the parallels between his claims and Combs’ current allegations are hard to ignore.
While Oddi’s actions at Trump Doral were indefensible, the resurfacing of his story has sparked debate online. Posts on X reflect a mix of skepticism and intrigue, with some users calling Oddi’s claims prescient in light of Combs’ indictment. Others caution against taking the word of a man with a documented history of mental instability. As Combs’ trial unfolds, Oddi’s bizarre saga may yet reveal more about the disgraced mogul’s inner circle.
