CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL — In a deeply disturbing case that has rocked the local community, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Mexican national in the U.S. illegally, accused of brutally sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in a wooded area behind the victim’s home.
According to authorities, the incident took place while the boy was playing hide-and-seek with his 8-year-old brother near their residence. During the game, the suspect reportedly lured the child into the woods, where the alleged assault occurred.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the suspect had previously been caught and released by federal immigration authorities in 2022, during the Biden-Harris administration, sparking renewed scrutiny over national immigration policies and border security enforcement.
In a press conference, Sheriff [Name, if available] expressed outrage and called for accountability at the federal level. “This is the direct result of failed immigration enforcement,” the Sheriff said. “This child’s life is forever changed because someone who never should’ve been in this country was allowed to walk free.”
The accused has been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail. Charges include multiple counts of sexual battery on a minor under 16 years of age. ICE has also placed a detainer on the suspect.
Local officials and advocacy groups are calling for a thorough investigation into how and why the individual was released back into the general population in 2022. Critics are pointing to this case as an example of the real-world consequences of lenient immigration policies.
The Sheriff’s Office is providing support services to the victim and his family, and the investigation remains ongoing.
