Renowned Dominican singer Rubby Pérez, an icon of merengue music, tragically passed away Tuesday at the age of 69 after being trapped beneath the rubble of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning while Pérez was performing live. Although he was found with vital signs, he died hours later during rescue efforts, according to official sources.

The roof collapse at the popular venue has, so far, claimed 58 lives and left over 100 injured, with authorities warning the death toll may rise in the coming hours. Among the victims was the saxophonist of Pérez’s orchestra, deepening the shock within the Dominican music community.
