A dream vacation to Thailand turned into a nightmare for one traveler who claims he was robbed, assaulted by police, and left shackled to a cell in horrific conditions—all because he accidentally walked into a street sign.
According to the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, the ordeal began when he struck his head on a sign while exploring a busy area. Disoriented, he was soon approached by local police officers, who accused him of public intoxication despite his claims of sobriety. The situation quickly escalated as officers allegedly beat him, stole his belongings, and threw him into a holding cell.
“I was cuffed to the bars, lying in a puddle of my own urine, with no way to move or call for help,” he recounted. “They treated me like a criminal when all I did was bump into a sign.”
Tourists have long been warned about corruption and heavy-handed law enforcement practices in certain parts of Thailand, and this case sheds light on the darker side of travel in the region. Human rights groups have called for an investigation, urging Thai authorities to address police misconduct.
Despite eventually being released, the traveler says he is still traumatized by the experience and is considering legal action.
